Torlinque is the Eldest son of Captain Kharie'l. Nahrie'l is his younger half brother. Kharie'l never brought either of his sons along when he visited my brother and I with our mother, so I didn't meet Torlinque until we were grown and he was assigned to "my" squad.

Torlinque was raised by his father in Kharie'l's big house on the western edge of the village. Kharie'l is Clan Kesperi'oni. Therefore, so is Torlinque. Most of that clan are merchants and sailors. The majority of them were centered in the marina area to the south that was located between Sarna and the Tulari capital city. What drove Kharie'l to seek a career as an Adrastai and drove him to eventually become Captain of the Guard and Master of the Adrastai school at the Temple is something only he could answer. That all happened long before I was born, and he keeps his secrets well.

Torlinque's mother, Serena, is Clan Kholi'ani from another village. She was serving as a Maiden in the Temple when she caught wicked Kharie'l's wandering eye. She was rather young at the time. They were Lovemates for several years, but were never bound. Kharie'l was overjoyed when Torlinque was born, but still did not bind to Serena as she had hoped he would with the baby. Eventually, she left Kharie'l, and Torlinque with him, and returned to her parents' village.

So in truth, Torlinque is half Clan Kesperi'oni and half Clan Kholi'ani.

As soon as he could stand up as a young toddler, Kharie'l began to teach Torlinque the stances of the Adrastai. Even before puberty, Torlinque was wielding live steel. Kharie'l had a pair of baby sized fakhai'n specially made for him, and had new ones made as Torlinque grew.

The day he reached the age of consent, Torlinque took his first level Adrastai tests and passed them easily, something unheard of in one so young. He has been Adrastai his entire adult life.

Torlinque has earned the highest level of rank attainable among the Adrastai. The only way he could advance now is if his father stepped down as Captain, something no one wants right now. He wears 4 of the jeweled studs in his left collar and in his red sash. He does not have to attend morning practice if he does not wish to do so, but often Kharie'l asks him to help there anyway.

Torlinque was both a Temple Guard and one of my personal bodyguards when I met him. For a brief time after the Gating and the realm became what it is now, Torlinque served by riding afternoon patrols around the perimeter of the village. Currently, he is once again serving as a Temple Guard.
